open education town meeting

by P

I am representing the University of the Western Cape at the open education meeting organised joinly by The Shuttleworth Foundation, Open Society Institute, and the Hewlett Foundation. We are roughly 30 people from around the world working on various aspects of open education. We started the day off by listing the many different projects and initiatives participants are involved in, and using them to map out the ecosystem of open education. Groups took very different approaches to these maps, there was a tagcloud of keywords, the minimalist “cycle of open learning”, and my group’s value driven circular system of content and communities.

One question that has not gotten the attention it deserves so far (but it is starting to come out in the break away sessions) is why this effort at community building would be more successful than previous ones. James from LAMS brought this up in my group, and I hope we will return to this with more time later today or tomorrow.
